School Information

The Aims Of Our School.

At Elysian International School, we aim to provide a disciplined, yet warm and friendly atmosphere, in which the moral, social and academic education of the children will be developed. The children will be expected to display honesty, good manners and to show consideration towards others. They will be encouraged to work to the best of their ability, at all times, in practical, physical and academic activities, thereby developing as self-disciplined individuals and as respected and contributing members of the school and wider community.

In particular, we aim to:

Ensure that all pupils have full access to the National Curriculum

Ensure children reach their full potential in all aspects of the school’s curriculum including the National Curriculum, and in acquiring effective skills in literacy and numeracy. Provide children with an education appropriate to the world outside the classroom. Develop a love of learning and a desire to continue to expand their knowledge and skills throughout their life. Help them to learn to live together in a community and to show sensitivity to the differences between one another.

Elysian is a school that continually performs very well; striving for strong progress and high achievement. In Phonics, checks remain high when compared with local and national results. Our Pupils also excel in other areas of the curriculum including, Art, PE, Music and Sport.

Encourage them to become responsible, independent people, who are able to look at and think deeply about the world around them

Develop a positive sense of moral responsibility and self-discipline Develop spiritual awareness and awe of the universe.

In order to be effective, the governors, both corporately and individually, are participating in training

sessions. They have also met with staff and visited the school regularly, sitting in on lessons and working with the children.

Charging Policy

There are no compulsory charges for the usual curricular activities at the school. For some activities, such as school trips, the school occasionally asks for a voluntary financial contribution in order for the activity to take place.

However, the school may have to cancel planned events if there is insufficient financial support.

Some of the music tuition which takes place during the school day is paid for by the parents directly to the tutor and is not covered by voluntary contributions.

Annual Contribution

An annual voluntary donation of 10 cedis per pupil is requested to help meet the costs of extra activities such as cooking, needlework, visiting speakers or theatrical groups and Christmas parties. There is no obligation to make such donations and no child will be omitted from any such activity, but without substantial parental support such activities could not continue.

Welfare – Medical

Letters referring to minor illnesses, absences etc. should be addressed to the class teacher who is, in general, responsible for the pastoral care of his/her pupils.

It is possible for certain prescribed medicines to be administered at school. This must be done by arrangement with the Head Teacher and all medication should be clearly named and held in the school office for safety.

If you wish to discuss a specific point or problem with your child's class teacher, it is preferable to make an appointment to see the teacher after school.

The Head Teacher is always willing to discuss any problems that give cause for concern, or any matter which may arise which might affect your child's social or educational welfare or development.

Parents are requested not to drive through the school gates before 9.30 am and between 2.30 pm and 3.30pmon any school day. The only exceptions would be by prior agreement with the Head Teacher. Our concern is the safety of all your children so your assistance in this matter is appreciated.

Accidents & Illness

If your child is unwell we will make every effort to contact you. It is very important that we have up-to-date home/work telephone numbers or other contact numbers. Until we have contacted you, we will take any action required in the interests of the child. If your child is ill before school begins, please do not send them to school on that day.

Although we will always care for children who become ill at school, any necessary medical treatment or administering of medicines will be carried out in accordance with our School Medication Policy.

Parents naturally have responsibility for the care of their children, and from time to time may need to discuss medical matters with the headteacher.

We have trained first aiders on our school staff and in the event of an accident, appropriate first aid will be given. In the case of more serious accidents, we will contact you as soon as possible. Every parent will be asked to sign an agreement form giving permission for appropriate medical emergency treatment to be arranged in the event of an extreme emergency or parents not available or contactable.

If your child suffers a blow to the head, you will always be notified.

Some health checks will be carried out during your child's infant and junior years and you will always be notified prior to any routine checks taking place. own arrangements with their General Practitioner.

Head Infestation

The responsibility lays with the parent to report to the Head Teacher any case of infestation and to keep the child away from school until treatment has been successful.  Arrangements for Pupils with Physical or Sensory Impairment.

Parents of children with physical or sensory impairment are asked to give the headteacher details of the situation as soon as they are offered a place at the school. The headteacher will arrange a meeting at a mutually convenient time to discuss the ways in which the child’s impairment might hinder her/him from taking a full part in the life of the school and the ways in which such difficulties will be overcome.

The headteacher will then make any arrangements necessary to enable the child to participate fully in all lessons and activities. These arrangements may include briefing staff, obtaining special equipment, making minor adaptations to the building, rearranging classroom furniture and/or employing support staff. These may take time to put into place and may require advice and assistance from the education office or specialist agencies, so parents are urged to see the headteacher as soon as possible so that everything can be ready for the child’s first day at school.

The Parents, Teachers and Friends of Elysian International School

Association (PTFA)

The PTFA s a registered charity that organises events throughout the year to raise money for the school.

Money is spent in a wide variety of ways to improve the education of children at Elysian School. The PTFA is not just a fund-raising body, it also assists in organising parental help in school, and brings parents and teachers together in social events and meetings to share educational information. All parents with children attending the school are automatically members of the association and no membership fee is charged.

Every parent is welcome to attend the AGM and can seek election to the committee. Needless to say, whether you are a committee member or not, your help at events will always be appreciated. Any support you give will benefit your child.

Complaints Procedure

If you have any concerns about your child’s education, whether it relates to the curriculum or not, please talk it over with the head teacher or class teacher. Arrangements can be made from 8.30am or at the end of afternoon school. If you have a concern or complaint about the curriculum or religious worship in a school you should talk it over first with the headteacher or other staff. If you are not satisfied that your complaint has been settled by informal discussion, you can ask to have it considered by the governing body.

Complaints may be made under arrangements pursuant to Section xx of the Education Reform Act xxxcx

Details are available from the school office or the education office.

We would very much hope that any problem could be resolved through discussion with the staff at school.

The following information is given in accordance with the XXX Education Reform Act. The minutes of governors’ meetings, National Curriculum documents and school curriculum guidelines may be viewed by appointment in school.

Severe Weather Conditions

If worsening weather conditions indicate that by 3.00 p.m. children and staff may have difficulty getting home, every attempt will be made to contact you to ask you to come and collect children from school.

If you anticipate difficulties collecting your children later in the day due to weather conditions, please come early and collect children from school or telephone us to let us know what arrangement to make.

Needless to say, the head, deputy or other authorised people will remain at school until all children have been safely collected by their parents.

If the decision is made not to open the school as a result of deteriorating conditions overnight, a notice will be put up outside school as early as possible to tell you the school is closed. The school telephone will be staffed from 8.00 a.m. - 10.00 a.m. so that enquiries can be made, and again from 3.00 pm-5.00 p.m. We will endeavour to post up to date bulletins on the school website and this should be your first

point of reference. Our website address is www.ElysianInternationalschool.co.uk. Local radio will be notified and information will be broadcast on

Absence from School

If your child is absent from school for any reason, it is essential that you let us know by telephone or a short note as soon as possible but no later than 9 am on the first day of absence. The school office is usually able to take calls from 7.30 am. You can also email the school at the following address: absence

@elysian.xxxx (this is a dedicated email just to report a child’s absence - no other enquiries should be directed to this address please).

If you wish your child to leave school during the day for an appointment please ensure that we are informed beforehand.

Time off school for family holidays is not right. The headteacher, acting on behalf of the governing body, has the discretion to agree to requests for holiday. If you are going to take a holiday during term time, you must fill in a holiday form, available from the school office. Schools can only authorise up to 10 school days’ absence for family holidays in one academic year. Absences for family holidays over and above this amount count unauthorized absences.

The school has to keep a record of unauthorised absences. The percentage of unauthorised absences for the Ist term 2021 was …0..% of the total available sessions.

The number of pupils with at least one unauthorized absence for the same period was XX.

The rate of authorised absences for the same period was XXX
